Dearest,
After a series of odd dreams I awoke in a fog- and in blew a vision of a motel pool. The bright turquoise water gently lapping beneath the pale stucco and white iron railings. Even more impressive, in flooded the feeling of having being there. Why did I enjoy that? A vivid memory but from a new angle. Instead of dragging my dirty backpack through the antique halls, I stood on the balcony looking down at a near pastoral scene. This usually ignored motel lives in the desert, plain and charming in its own way set against the dusty mountains and very blue, blue sky. Quiet and nonchalant in the day, shady (and sometimes fun) at night. I had many questions during my stay.

I’ve never watched the rapid eye movements of someone’s sleep cycle. It’s eerie, watching their eye balls roll around under the lids- quick quick slow! Quick quick quick sloooow…
During a lazy morning of compulsive animal YouTube videos, I learned that eels have two sets of jaws, and when they catch prey with their front teeth, the ones in the back of their throat jut forward and snatch the prey in the mouth. That must be where the movie Alien came from.
And did you know African clawed frogs were used as pregnancy tests? They get injected with urine and if they then start laying eggs in 8-12 hours, then happy Mother’s Day mama! I always thought myself as very different from amphibians, but mi pregnancy es su pregnancy I guess.
All I can think is…. thank god someone was curious enough to learn about all the weird facts of this world and share it. Thank god someone was intense enough to do this research and exploration.
During my week-long stays at the aforementioned motel, suspended from my everyday life but still in my day-to-day self of mental chatter, I had many new experiences and questions- good, bad and ugly. It was that state of openness and aliveness that satisfied me so much from the vision of the pool.
The world is an insane place. And what an extraordinary thing to experience wonder. It gives us a sense of curiosity- what else is out there? What else is possible? And perhaps maybe even gives new hope on what’s possible for us.
This quote by Mo Gawdat:
“The future will be better than you expect it to be. It always has been. You would not have been here if your present matched your past fears, would you?”
What if that’s true?
MOODY SOUNDS
At 20:09 - Karin Krog & Red Mitchell (vox+bass duo) play “You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To” … I wish I could find an easier link for you all but I can’t.
Yours,
Connie
P.S For those of us that have sat under the shade of pessimism - it’s worth making the effort to remember that we don’t know what the future holds. Much of the world is unexplored. There is what already exists that we don’t know, and also what does not yet exist that we don’t know.
