When Ouspensky came to study with Gurdjieff, he was already an accomplished author of philosophical/ metaphysical works. Gurdjieff told him that what he was writing was good, but that he hadn't integrated the knowledge into his understanding yet. In other words, he was still separate from what he was writing about.
